Local singer and songwriter Xu Wei presented his long-anticipated concert "Walk in Summer" at Great Hall of the People Thursday night.
The singer is the fifth pop rocker to serenade audiences at this premier political venue in August, following Taiwan singers Richie Jen and Huang Pinyuan, Jeff Chang and Hong Kong chanteuse Sandy Lam.
The major venues where concerts are usually held in Beijing are under renovation now for the 2008 Olympics. Since Xu has a large number of fans in China, the 6,000-seat venue was sold out.
The concert had been delayed for half an hour to begin, but when the first note flowed from Xu's guitar, the whole venue erupted with exhilaration.
Xu also invited Taiwan indie singer Cheer Chan as a guest performer to have a duet with him on stage. Another musician Xu cooperated with ten years ago, Dou Ning, was also invited to the concert.
During the concert, fans went so crazy that it became chaotic in front seats.
The performance ended up with a encore of his "Every Minute Is Brand New."
