World champion Cheng Fei snared the women's floor title with ease, adding the third gold to her glory on team and vault here on Wednesday.
Cheng Fei, the triple world champion at Aarhus championships, powered through her difficult tumbling passes and performed with ease and grace to take her third gold on floor. She scored 15.750 points. Cheng's teammate Pang Panpan finished second on 15.250 points and Japan's Kyoko Oshima the third on 15.075 points.
All the three enjoyed a good night and a well-pleasing result.
"I should say I performed well on general, but a little bug is still there," said Cheng. "Hopefully it will get better and better."
"I think I am a competitive gymnast on beam though I did not go to the apparatus," told Cheng. "I don't know if I will train on uneven bars. It depends on my coach."
"I will get myself ready for the forthcoming World Cup final in Brazil."
Cheng entered the women's floor final as top qualifier to demonstrate her explosive opening tumbling line, a high double twisting, double back somersault.
Cheng's difficulty and stability found no parallel on floor at the Asiad. Her leg strength is the best support for her high writhing.
Cheng has won two gold medals, vault and team. She battled with Hong Su Jong in the vault final, finishing only 0.150 ahead of her improving rival.
Pang gave herself positive comments and settled well with the silver.
"I did not prepare very well for the Asian Games after the world championships, so I should grading a high mark for my performance," said Pang. "I can say I practiced my routine fluently."
"I still have not fully recovered from the tiredness of world championships, for I am always slow to refresh completely."
Kyoko Oshima thinks her bronze is a result of her upgrading.
"I can smile for the bronze. Compared with the past, I have already made great progress, so I think I should be pleased with it," Oshima commented.
Cheng missed a medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, finishing fourth. But she catapulted her way to gold at the 2006 world championships. Cheng won by a margin of 0.325 ahead of a competitive field specialist Brazilian floor sensation Daiane Dos Santos. Cheng has also claimed two titles on the world cup circuit this season, in Shanghai (15.400) and Lyon (14.975).
Cheng qualified for the Asiad final with 15.700, a comfortable 0.400 ahead of teammate Pang Panpan.
Reigning champions Zhang Nan and Oxana Chusovitina did not defend their title. Zhang did not compete on this apparatus during qualification, while Chusovitina now has German citizenship, pulling out of the Uzbekistan team a few months ago.
